Comparison

Datablare vs AI2SQL

AI2SQL started as an assistant that writes, explains and fixes SQL, and now also offers a remote MCP server and a Gateway for AI agents. Datablare is built only for the second job: governed, read-only database access for AI tools. Both take read-only seriously; the differences are in scope, engines and team controls.

Who each is best for

Pick the one that fits the job

AI2SQL may fit better if you want

  • Individuals who want help writing, explaining, fixing and optimising SQL, across many dialects.
  • A low monthly price in US dollars for one person.
  • Reaching a database on your own machine through its desktop app, without opening a port.
  • SQL generation for engines such as BigQuery, MongoDB or SQLite.

Datablare may fit better if you want

  • Live, read-only querying on Oracle, ClickHouse and Snowflake as well as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and SQL Server.
  • Hiding individual columns today, per project.
  • An audit log that names the person who asked, with roles that limit analysts to specific data sources.
  • Several databases behind one MCP link, hosted in India and billed in rupees.

A broad SQL toolkit and a focused gateway

AI2SQL’s core is an AI SQL assistant: generate SQL from plain English on your schema, explain queries, fix errors and optimise performance, for dialects from PostgreSQL and Oracle to BigQuery, MongoDB and SQLite. It also runs a remote MCP server for AI clients and a separate Gateway that gives agents keyed, read-only database access.

Datablare does one thing: governed, read-only database access for AI tools. It does not write or tune SQL for you; the agent does. It controls what the agent can read and who is asking, and records every query.

Where the two agree

Both say read-only should be enforced by the system, not requested in a prompt. AI2SQL’s Gateway blocks writes and runs queries in a read-only transaction as a second layer; its MCP server runs only a single SELECT or WITH. Datablare’s SQL guard refuses anything that is not a single read, and the database keeps the query read-only. Both offer OAuth sign-in from AI clients and encrypt stored database credentials.

Where AI2SQL may be the better fit

If you mainly want help writing SQL, AI2SQL is built for it and Datablare is not. Its paid plans start at $9 a month, which suits an individual. Its desktop app works with a database on your own machine without opening a port. And for BigQuery, MongoDB or SQLite it can at least write the SQL, while Datablare does not support those engines.

Where Datablare may be the better fit

  • More engines queried live: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle, ClickHouse and Snowflake.
  • Column control today: hide individual columns per project, on every plan.
  • An audit log with names: who asked, the SQL, tables, rows and timing, with CSV export on Team and above.
  • Team roles: managers, analysts and viewers, with analysts limited to specific data sources if you want.
  • Many databases, one link: each SQL statement runs on one database; the agent combines the answers.

Hosting and price

Datablare is hosted in India and bills in rupees with no seat limit; see pricing. AI2SQL bills in US dollars, with separate plans for its SQL assistant and its Gateway. Datablare’s controls help you meet DPDP, GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA and PDPL obligations. Read security and how it works, or setup for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code.

FAQ

Common questions

Do AI2SQL and Datablare both keep AI agents read-only?

Both say so, in two layers. AI2SQL’s Gateway blocks writes and runs queries in a read-only transaction; its MCP server runs only a single SELECT or WITH statement. Datablare’s SQL guard refuses anything that is not a single read, and the database keeps the query read-only through a read-only session or, on SQL Server and Snowflake, a transaction that is always rolled back.

Which databases can each query live?

AI2SQL’s MCP page lists live querying for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB, and SQL Server, and its Gateway page lists PostgreSQL as live with MySQL rolling out. Datablare queries PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle, ClickHouse and Snowflake.

Is AI2SQL cheaper than Datablare?

Both have a free tier. AI2SQL lists paid plans from $9 a month and Gateway plans at $29 and $99 a month. Datablare lists Team at ₹7,999 a month and Business at ₹24,999 a month, excluding GST, with no seat limit. For one person AI2SQL’s paid plans cost less; for a team, compare the limits and controls each plan includes.

Can I hide sensitive columns from the AI?

In Datablare, yes: you hide columns per project, and a query that touches one is refused. AI2SQL’s Gateway page lists a table allowlist as rolling out and PII masking as on its roadmap.
